March 2, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Ms. Pearl has been principal at Northgate for three years, and done an excellent job by all accounts. She’s being replaced on July 1st by Ms. Dedy Fauntleroy.
Socializing starts at 7:00; the meeting starts at 7:20. This meeting, we will select a nominating committee for next year’s officers. We will also be reviewing proposed new bylaws, our first significant change in over 40 years.
Here’s what the school district says about Ms. Fauntleroy and the transition.
UPDATE FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT:
Dear Northgate Elementary community, families, and staff,
I am writing today to let you know that your principal, Ms. Katie Pearl, has made the decision to pursue other personal and professional endeavors and will be ending her term as principal of Northgate Elementary at the end of June. This was a change that she requested, and while difficult to accept, one that we support. We wish her the best in her next steps.
I am extremely pleased to share my decision to appoint Ms. Dedy Fauntleroy as your new principal, effective July 1, 2017.
Since last spring, Ms. Fauntleroy has acted as the Planning Principal for Cedar Park Elementary School, scheduled to open this fall. Previously, Ms. Fauntleroy was the principal at John Stanford International School. With her history as a strong instructional leader, her experience and passion for serving students who are English language learners, and her drive for advocating for equity and social justice, Ms. Fauntleroy is excited to return to a neighborhood school environment that aligns to her background and expertise.
Ms. Fauntleroy earned a bachelor’s degree at Smith College and a master’s in education from the University of La Verne. She holds a Principal Certificate from the University of Washington’s Danforth Educational Leadership Program. Dedy also undertook training in ELL and earned her teaching certificate at the University of La Verne. She previously served as English Language Learner (ELL) and International Programs instruction coach for Seattle Public Schools. She has also worked with the Council of Great City Schools and the Center for Teacher Quality since 2011.
Thank you to Katie Pearl for her leadership as principal at Northgate Elementary School for the past three years. Ms. Fauntleroy is committed to building on the strong foundation Principal Pearl and the Northgate Elementary staff have created, I know they will work together this spring to ensure a smooth transition.
Ms. Pearl, working with Jon Halfaker, the Executive Director for the NW Region, along with Ms. Fauntleroy will set up multiple opportunities for building staff, students, and families to meet and collaborate with Ms. Fauntleroy as she transitions into her role as your new principal. Thank you for the high expectations you set for every student, and for all you do for the Northgate Elementary community.
Please join me in welcoming Principal Dedy Fauntleroy to the Northgate Community.
Larry Nyland, Superintendent
