Community Event: Design feedback for play area at Hubbard Homestead Park

December 4, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

From the Seattle Parks invitation:

We need your input! Seattle Parks and Recreation is installing new play area at the Hubbard Homestead Park.  Please join Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Planner, Project Manager and Principal Landscape Architect at the Berger Partnership to discuss ideas about the design and provide input on new play area.

Please participate in quick survey:

We are hosting two meetings to inform you about the project and gather your input.  The first meeting will be an opportunity to learn about the project and provide input that will inform the overall design for the play area.  The second meeting will show designs that reflect what we heard in the first meeting and be an opportunity to provide input on play equipment options.

The Hubbard Homestead play area project site will be located on the east end of Hubbard Homestead Park. The scope for the project will include minor site improvements and a play area that’s in compliance with current play area safety standards and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access. Funding for this park improvement is provided by Seattle Park District.

This meeting will also provide information on the decommissioning of a playground at Victory Creek Park, 1059 NE Northgate Way, Seattle, WA 98125. Unfortunately, playgrounds are not designed and constructed to last forever and this playground was no exception. Under Parks and Recreation policy number 060-P 5.12.1, a decommissioning is necessary because it is substantially out of code compliance. The decommissioning of this playground will create the opportunity to start new play area at Hubbard Homestead Park.

Project Goal

This project will develop a play area within the existing Hubbard Homestead Park. The goal is to provide playground equipment which will include play elements and access for children of all ages and abilities.  Improvements will include fall surfacing, seating, storm water mitigation and limited landscape improvements.

11203 5th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125

The Seattle Parks District Major Project Challenge Fund provides $600,000 in funding for this project.
